Hello my precious friend,
The 90s rang my phone and I took up. At least that’s the short definition of this look, or how you could perceive it. But before I dive into that, I’m granting you with short information of how my life has been this week – ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ADORABLE BABY. Well, this excitement might come from the absolutely stunning weather, that made it possible to leave the house in something else than a coat and a not-so-deep smile. But don’t you ever think bad weather would cross the smile out of my face completely, no no. On that note – I’ve got the feedback, that I’m always looking so sad and grumpy? Hence you’re seeing a few smiley pictures this week. No, I’m kidding. Actually, they just go along with the look. I always try to transport the vibe that I’m feeling in my look into the shots (this actually sounds more pathetic than I thought I would, oopsie). But as I’m most of the time feeling pretty CoOl, I’m just looking a bit grumpy-bumpy. I’m not. Who knows me, knows. Who always reads these long ass paragraphs, knows. So just imagine me reading this out loud to you with a smile. Like in these pictures. This was just a very goofy shoot with lots of weird poses and also a squirrel ran right beside me. Naturally, I was absolutely delighted. For transparency reasons I also should also add that the feedback was from the lovely ladys of my family (hello auntie and stepmom, dear regards in this place!). Could or could not be representative.
AHANYWAY –
I spent all my afternoons in the park, trying to get my legs brown. This didn’t really work out, but what did was filling up the social battery at least a little bit. I got to see the one or other nose of some friends who got astray in the park, too. Oh my, and I noticed this week again how much I actually need to see people to feel like my proper self. I don’t know how you feel about that, and I suppose this also depends on if you’re more of an introvert/extrovert, but for me, the Y in Yoko stands in capitals for SOCIAL. FUCKING. BUTTERFLY. I do enjoy myself a good me-time indeed, but I am my full self when being around people. So, the weather and noses of nice people kicked my mood to space this week.
And what would support this lovingly chill week better than my all-time favourite chill look? Okay, it’s not my “all-time-fave” (that would be a nice idea for a future post though!), but rather my current fav. It is this simple 90’s influenced-sporty look that we are absolutely digging when we don’t know what to wear. Now, what makes this very simple look a bit cooler than just some t-shirt and a skinny-jeans? Firstly, that it’s not skinny jeans. No matter what you’re thinking my dear, if you want to be a bit hip, don’t do these anymore. There are very few occasions when skinny jeans, and with skinny jeans I mean the very, very 2012-style-skinny ones, work. These days, at least. And everyday-fashion isn’t one of them. I don’t want to offend anyone and I am a big supporter of the wear-what-you-want-and-feel-like-crew, but this is a fashion blog and I need to let you know when you are running deep down into your fashion doom. So – opt for a relaxed fit. And it doesn’t have to be as overwhelming as my jeans is here, with all it's baggy- and looseness.

Just go for something that doesn’t sit completely tight around your leg. Now, to contribute to the baggy “I-don’t-need-to-look-sexy-for-anyone-but-myself-vibe”, we add the chunky dad sneaker. To contrast this, we add a tight top. I do love myself a good turtleneck, but a razor-back top, or a bandeau, or a simple crop top, pretty much everything that hugs your upper body a bit, will work. What I especially like about the one I’m wearing is that it is very thick and structured. This gives a good contrast with the denim fabric of the jeans.
Now, as it is still spring, unfortunately, it’s not warm all day long. If the sun is going down, you can top the look with a college jacket. Yes baby, these boys are back (at least that is what the VOGUE told me, let’s see how true their word actually is). But I am already wearing this baby since it fell into my hands. It’s a vintage piece of one of my aunties best friends, and I LOVE this jacket. Really. It brings joy to me everytime I see and feel it. Huh, those pieces, we all have them, right? Well, because it brings so much joy to me, I sprinkle it on top of every look at the moment. College Jackets are so lovingly understatement, that they do their magic on almost every (casual) look.

And just to bring in a bit more colour, I added the yellow sunglasses. I do love tinted glasses, always. Especially in a look with as many different colours as these. You might not perceive this look as colourful first-hand, because there are just very basic colours and no bright ones, but with blue, white, grey, brown and black we actually have a few. There you go, a little interesting yellow bop makes it between these toned-down.
Now, lastly, the Yoko-Drip-Tip: BUY. VINTAGE. It’s 2021 and I don’t need to tell the versed fashion-friend that the lifecycle and production of fast fashion is atrocious. And I don’t speak myself completely free from shopping fast-fashion, as most of the time it, unfortunately, it is the easiest to stay on trend. But four of the six clothing pieces you see here are second-hand. And I really have to tell you that I almost love all of my second-hand pieces more than I do the ones I bought at ZARA. They just carry a bit more history and less guilt with them. Also, big plus, the quality of “old” fashion is SO much better. If you could touch the jeans and jacket from these pics you would instantly FEEL that they have been expensive at some point. And moreover, vintage shopping is a bit like treasure hunting, which is just a big lot of fun for the adventurous kid that still is snoozing somewhere inside of you, promise.
Yoko-Drip-Tip:
Buy Vintage.
Please don’t judge the frizzy-fruzzy something on my head. At the beginning of the shooting I did have something like a hairstyle, but it was SO stormy that day, that I just gave up and shook them in every direction. That was much more fun than taking care of a hairstyle that is, just like skinny jeans, doomed to not work. Try that, too.
Stay sunny from the inside, ‘til next week, and have a happy and merry easter with lots of chocolate!
