Hey hey handsome fellas and fellarinos,
another week has passed that flew by in instant. Last weeks weekend trip to the countryside was pretty soothing (and crisping just as well). Beside it being a much-needed break, it was simply wonderful to be somewhere else than my own four walls again, with my lovelydovely best friends. THOUGH, I love my four walls. It’s always a pleasure to come back.
Coming back is a nice cue because my dear insta-follower knows the look of this week already. I came back to what I wore for a cocktail-sipping night about two weeks ago because I felt this gem of an outfit deserved an own post. I can not stress almost enough how much like a snack I feel wearing this. And because I don’t want this lovely feeling to withdraw from you, I’ll give you a few insights for it today, to recreate or get inspired by.
But firstly, on another more personal note (as I like to write down my whole life on the internet, apparently? Cybersafety training didn’t get to me really deep yet, cough-cough.) – I’ve got a promotion this week! THAT was delighting. Promotion actually means that I’m working on a few other bits, surrounding other themes on my job, but I felt so lucky and happy to get the chance. And as a few dear people around me once said – never. Stagnation. Don’t you ever, ever stand still. Naturally, I said yes. And that’s why I’m smiling like a Cheshire cat for four days straight.
But now back to the reason why you’re probably mainly here – the faaashion. As I said in the intro – to me this was a cocktail look. Mainly, because the top I’m wearing underneath the jacket isn’t really appropriate in formal-clothing-areas. Nevertheless, it is pretty casual, but on the other hand pretty high-functional-casual. By that I mean, that you could wear this on a night out (bar, disco, party – you name it) but also to a formal dinner. And why so, I’m telling you now.
We have the few casual elements mainly on the upper body – the 90’s cut leather jacket; rather a leather blazer, for once. Secondly, the white spaghetti-strap top. Those you wouldn’t typically wear to an office, or somewhere, where you would want to be taken seriously. Now that sounds so negative, you think? Far from that. Pieces, that don’t scream “formal” automatically scream “dégagé” (translates to = casual. unconstrained. nonchalant.) – which we really like when trying to find suitable pieces for a night out.
“dégagé” = casual. unconstrained. nonchalant.
On the downer half of my body, you see rather chic, formal pieces. A classic straight, black pants (that’s hugging my booty in all the right places, I tell you. One of the top 5 gems of my wardrobe) together with pointed, heeled sandals. A pointed shoe may give you a bit of foot pain, but it will also give you 50+ points of elegance, no matter the outfit.
For accessorizing I wanted to add a bit of colour, to give the look that tiny bit of extra pop. Therefore, you see the silk scarf wrapped around my tiny black bag. The print is somewhat Hermès inspired. Naturally not a real Hermès. Mama still doesn’t have the money yet.
Corresponding with the bag and the rest of the colour scheme of this weeks look, I wore black sunglasses. Considering the ornaments of the bag being golden, I added some small golden hoops.
The jewelry is, in comparison to my other looks, quite subsidiary. The hairstyle and make-up really make the vibe of this outfit complete. I decided to go for all-slicked-back hair, or how I like to call it – “The Draco Malfoy”. Jokes aside – this hairstyle really makes you feel like you’re Annie Lennox performing Sweet Dreams – aka: Like. The. Baddest. Bitch. In. Town.
I don’t know what it is about it. Probably that you lose all playfulness because there isn’t one flick of hair you could play with. All people can see is your magnificent face, that really pops out. And because your face really pops out, you should accentuate it the right way. I went with a bit of contouring, but especially highlighting the cheekbones and bright, orange lipstick, that corresponds well with the scarf. For situations where I’m not wearing the glasses, I also added sharp, black eyeliner.
Now why do these pieces work together? For once, I already mentioned it, the colour scheme, which is very toned down, with that much of black. This look screams that it wants to be cool, and which colour does support coolness better than black? None. What really makes the outfit stand out are the few, delicately added colours in the scarf, lipstick and nail polish. Besides the colour scheme, it is once again the break of formal pieces and casual ones – but all in the right cuts. Here, especially the cut of the leather jacket is important. With a shorter leather jacket, the whole look would be different. And the cuts are actually pretty flattering for every body type – because that is, what formal wear does. The trick for making the look cool is: It doesn’t seem too formal, because of the fabric and print mixture. We have leather, silk plus the shiny shoes – being the extravagant materials, paired with cotton, turning the extravaganza down again.
And all of this add’s up, to being the cool, coolcoolcool, look that you are seeing here.
Lastly – YokoDripTip: listen to your first, favourite album again. I did so, by listening to… actually, all of the Arctic Monkeys Albums the last days (hence the title of this post). And it was so heavinly nostalgic! But also so joyously inspiring. It felt good, that is the main reason why I’m drip-tipping this to you. And I am sure you’ll get anything out of performing the DripTip, too. May it be inspiration, happiness, nostalgia, whatever. But you’ll feel anything.
Enough words for this week again! See ya next week 10 AM here.
