There is always a point in winter when you are bored out by your favourite Jeans-Pullover-Combo. Or you do not want to lounge around any longer in your favourite Lounge-Set. Okay, I suppose most people don’t mind lounging around longer and pandemic-wise there is a big reason for not switching out of them. Personally, my day doesn’t really start until I’m dressed. If I didn’t get dressed in the morning, you might as well find me snuggled up under a bunch of blankets for the whole day. Undressed. Or barely dressed. At least in something that I wouldn’t consider a real Outfit. But that’s another point.
SO I decided to throw myself into something a bit more special, a bit more unusual, just to spice a quarantine day a little up. Because I promise—even if you’re just going to get groceries or for a walk, you will feel much more like the badass girl you are, when being dressed like one. OR—when being dressed a little bit more boyish. Because who reserved the good old elegant, badass suit and tie combo only for men?
No one! Lovely!
You’ll see me not exactly wearing a suit and tie here, but the look reminded me of that in the end. I paired black high-waist wide-leg trousers (these are really giving their best in impersonating the comfiness of your sweatpants, and they win) with a shirt and underneath a white turtleneck. The turtleneck actually serves more practical reasons here because it IS cold outside, but it played well with the shirt. Plus, it takes a bit of sexiness out of the look, as we’re reducing cleavage so it adds up on our boyish appearance.
Side-note: Why do we say “cleavage” in English and don’t use the far more pretty word “décolleté” as our French friends do? Not gonna understand.
On top we put a black and white coat. I decided on a double-breasted one here, though I am fairly sure if you want a bit more POP, a very colourful coat would be a delight for everyone's eye as well. To keep the picture I opted for a loose coat. But to really give you the strong sparkle of a Thommy Shelby (Peaky Blinders? You see the reference?) we’re not stopping yet and adding a few accessorize. Actually, all accessorize you’re seeing here are my favourite and easiest combination of accessorizing at the moment. The golden double-chain necklace really goes along with the CASIO-watch and in the end, I’m just pairing my belts colourwise with the rest of the dings and dongs I added.
If you want a bit more POP, a colorful coat would be a delight to everyone's eye as well.
Just like the witch throwing ingredients into her pot to create a potion, we end up with not to less or too much but a bit of glimmer and shimmer that brings your look from “boring” to “better”. I decided to not go for any earrings because I really wanted to go for the boyish-vibe, but adding some small ones wouldn’t be a disaster. (Same colour and minus the watch to not be too over the top, of course.)
To make the Look “cooler” I decided to wear platform-chelseas and thus the sunglasses. To be honest, it was no way near as sunny that I’d need one, BUT if you’re living in one of the areas where there is a bit more snow, this detail could come in quite handy. The beret could give a bit of french impression, or just add on top of the Thommy-Shelby-Appearance. You decide.
Now, the last (and one of the most important steps) is the red lip. Oh, how I love a good, classy red lip. You might’ve got the impression I really want to be a boy in this text. FAR FROM THAT. I just love to appear as the strong, independent woman I am, even if I’m apparently impersonating (male) members of a Birmingham Crime-Family. Therefore we add the popping lipstick and show our femme via our lips.
Long story short—if you want to play a little dress-up in quarantine, being influenced by badass-boyish-but-make-it-femme-vibes, here you go!
See you soon, XX
