Look, there was snow outside! What a pleasure to wake up to. Even if its one month late, I do always feel like the little kid when the raindrops decide to crystalize. Including all of the kids fun-activities in snow. Building a snowman? Let’s go. Go sledding? Front row on the sleigh, please. Snow angel? I’m throwing myself on the floor, face-down.
For all of these activities I’d recommend a snowsuit, but instead we are taking a closer look at an outfit, that rather sparkles for itself on a snow-stroll. Not that I would hold you back when you are about to throw yourself in the snow, but I suppose with a suede Trenchcoat, you might feel a little wet and uncomfortable afterwards.
Nonetheless, this outfit is not at all not suitable for cold temperatures. In fact, the opposite. Before I’m jumping in the explanation why you wouldn’t freeze when going for a walk, I’d like to lose a few words about the colour-scheme I followed.
2021 is even more than 2020 about all-natural, earthy colours. You might’ve noticed this already in ads for home-décor, furniture, for sure also in fashion, basically in most of the decorative aspects of life. If you haven’t learned about this already, its because of our epidemy. Well, not exactly because of Covid-19, but because of the surroundings, we are finding ourselves in, due to it. People want to feel aligned with nature and the outside. As we are spending more and more time inside, we tend to lose this connection. That’s why we crave the cosiness and safety nature conveys to us. (That our generation has to deal with the uncertainty of the environment and that it doesn’t feel safe at all to us anymore is another note, that I’m not yet picking up on.) Also, we concentrate more on nature these days, as it’s almost the only thing left to do. Strolling, Walking, Wandering. Whatever you may call it, isn’t that the thing to do, if you want to see anyone’s face? And I suppose that most of you did take far more walks last year, then in a lifetime. Except you’re unlike me and have a dog. Back to the look—that’s the short explanation, why earthy colours are so visible and consistent at the moment. We substitute whites with cream, beige and brown, black with dark greens, and so on. The colour palette of mother earth.
I do really enjoy this trend. I love myself a good caramel-tone, as it so well compliments the skin colour and my hair, too. Also its really fun to create monochromatic looks in such schemes. And such one, we have here! Now you’ll see why this outfit, which actually looks not all too warm, really kept me so. Key-word? Layering. You might’ve guessed it already.
I already told you about the tights-trick in the latest post. Tights are a steady companion to me in winter. On top, I wore a (very) wide-leg trouser, that has slits on its side. You neither see the wide-leg nor the slits properly, because I tucked the leg into the boots. This creates a delicate detail when the slit is visible and the tights shine through. Plus, it gives you a completely different silhouette, then the trousers would actually do. One might say I look like I stole MC Hammers bottoms, but I’m pretty fine with that. Because it’s so unusual for our trained eye, its much more interesting. Love it! And for the boots, you get extra points if you have beige ones on hand. I didn’t, but black works just as good, doesn’t it?

On the upper body, we are wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck. On top of it, a cream-coloured oversized hoodie combined with a suede Trenchcoat. If you want to make it extra warm, you could even wear two shirts underneath the hoodie, no one would notice. Now you have only to choose if you tuck your sweater in – in this case, your kidneys thank you for the extra warmth—or, if you just let everything hang loose for the relaxed fit Billie Eilish taught us so well. I do enjoy both. Definitely, the tucked-in version gives your body more attention. You decide, if you want this, or to seem all the way chill.
In any case, to make sure we are not just any hangers, we top the outfit with dainty accessorize. A statement-earring really brings up the points on the elegance-scale, the chain-necklace and watch tones them down again a bit. It’s all about the balance.
And now, take your gloves and go play in the snow. I do, too.
