Hey hey my little nutmegs,
first of all and most important - I’m wishing all of you the happiest first sunday in advent! IT'S FINALLY CHRISTMAS TIME WOOOOO. Whilst some of you might interpret this as a cry for help (the grinch-fraction) I am as joyful as every christmas elf on the north pole melted into one giant pot of hot, glistening chocolate. Or mulled wine, preferably.
Anyway! As the temperatures are continuously dropping, I thought of a way to not freeze myself to death for once, taking the blog-pictures. I tell you that taking pictures is generally quite a difficult endeavor at the moment, considering we have daylight for about 30 seconds. So I decided to document the process of getting this look together a little differently. See it as a follow-me-around. I’m taking and talking you through all of the steps that were needed to create this cozy everyday-look.
We are starting off by black trousers. Those are probably the most simple but also the most worn item in my wardrobe. There is no dingle or dangle on them. Just straight, black pants. The importance in black, simple trouser pants is that they are supposed to hug you in all the right places - so no sizing up here, but therefore make sure they have a bit of elastane to them so you don’t have to gasp for air when snacking on a whole pack of roasted almonds. Nobody would do that Yoko? Nah? Cough. Cough. Me Neither.
Next up is a simple white, ribbed turtleneck. I think I don’t have to go on too much about the importance of turtlenecks in winter. If you don’t own one or thirteen by now, I would recommend to you to get yourself some as soon as possible.
Rachel Greene already showed us 1994 how amazing they look and if a piece of clothing is still fashionable 27 years later, you can trust its timeless-ness. They elongate every part of your torso, making you look all slim and shady. Jk, not shady - we leave that to Eminem. Momma apparently is in bad-joke-mood today, oopsie. But what they do is keep you warm.
The next step is make-up! (Yoko-drip-tip-for-in-between: Do your Make-Up after putting on a white turtleneck. I. Know. What. I’m. Talking. About.) I usually don’t do any beauty-related recommendations because there is little that bores me more out than make-up, but it might be quite fitting in this post. My routine for almost every day is:
Voilá, the Yoko-Look. Optional, but also often used:
When I’m extra motivated and playful I’m drawing myself some freckles.
But back to fashion! On top of the black trousers and the turtleneck we finally add some colour. How about a bright orange pullover? YES. One might have noticed that I have an ongoing crush for orange momentarily. More on that in the Yoko-Drip-Tip at the end of the post. The pullover is a wool-mixture with the simplest slightly oversized shape. There are also no bits and bobs, but regarding the colour we don’t need extras here.
On top of the pullover we add some golden jewelry, that combines well with the warmth of the orange and my new blonde hair. Silver would work just as good, depending on your skin-undertone.
Shoewise I opted for some square-toed 70s vintage boots. I chose those for they are shiny. The look itself is all simple, so you need to set your accents somewhere.
Not enough to keep us warm yet? Absolutely right. Since I vehemently refuse puffer jackets for years, its a coat to me. Since I wanted to keep the look simple on purpose, I just added a black long A-Line coat. On days where I feel like a bit more *dazzle* I’d have opted for a more daring one. Would work just as good.
Well, and almost-lastly our lovely black-leather-glovy-companions are making a special appearance again, too. You’ve seen them on the last two posts already. Because they haven't left my pocket ever since.
Really lastly is my orange Guess-Bag. My dear Instagram-Followers have seen this baby already a couple of times, since, like the gloves, it’s not leaving my shoulder since I got it. Bought this baby at a late-night-second-hand shopping. Best. Invest. Ever. I don’t think any purchase in a long time had made me this happy.
YOKO DRIP TIP TIME - WEAR COLOURS!!!! Winter itself, especially the current one with all these bad news, is so dismal on its own already. We do love ourselves some good black, white and brown, yes, definitely, indeed, but when everything on the outside is already black and brown you can be the bright lil spot in between. Plus, I promise, it’s so much fun because you feel like a flower. Who doesn’t want to be a pretty, bright flower?? HUH?
Thats it for now, set yourself your advent calendars up and I’ll come back with some christmas-y looks in two weeks! Stay tuned!
XXXXX Yoko
