And a deeply behearted hello to you, my dear!
What has the last week been like? RATHER STRESSFUL, for me at least. Well, I did not exactly start a new job last week, but the week on the job has been… busy. Then my boyfriend is keeping up with his move to Karlsruhe. Busy, either. Considering there are about 9232938 moving boxes at my place. (No it's not 9232938 but rather four in my flat and 15 in my basement, but you know I tend to exaggerate things for the dramatic effect, duh.) For all those gissipy-gossipy girls and boys out there – no, no, no, my sweetheart is still my sweetheart and will stay so, but he’s keeping his head and mind busy with his masters-degree over there. Good boy. BESIDES, nothing new, as usual. We know the drill of not leaving the house, except for walks and groceries by now. But hey, hey don’t you worry – I still got you covered if you want to dress like a real person and pretend that you have somewhere to go and therefore have a reason to dress magnificently.
Quite contrary to the latest post, I felt to dress like our deeply admired all-black-all-everything-all-showstopping look. WELL, I might have been influenced by…
YOKO-TIP - FASHION SHOWS. One of the few positive things the Corona-Virus brought to us. Firstly, that you can see them on YouTube. You might've been able to do this for the last-season shows anyway, but not as delivered in time as this year. Secondly, the ways that the shows have been curated 2020/2021 were EVOLVED. Video and Film production finally entered the fashion world. Also, the shows only take about ten minutes so you can easily consume the wonderfully dressed people while snacking your sandwich. Also, also – diversity is slowly but surely rolling into the high street houses and that’s what we’ve all been waiting for, right? So you see, there is a bunch of reasons why you should take them as an inspiration for your own.

Watch.
Fashion.
Shows.
They are available on YouTube, delicious and they evolved.
Now back to my looks because I suppose that is what you’re mainly here for. I watched the Balenciaga Fashion-Show and I was stunned. Not only were they making their fashion show an elongated music video to one of the greatest 80’s hits – Sunglasses at Night, originally by Corey Hart – but also were those Looks one for one DELICIOUS. Pretty dark, loads of loose silhouette and shapes, all in all just very cool. (If you don’t know which show to watch first, I strongly recommend this one). After watching it, I also felt very cool. Well, considering I watched it crumbled up in Jeans and a Hoodie on my couch, I felt more like my usual 80% cool and not the full hundred, but hey, would you call me Yoko if I didn’t knew how to fix this in a second? And with a second I mean in ten to twenty minutes and an outfit change. To answer the question – no, no not at all, you wouldn’t call me Yoko. Luckily, I did know how to fix and changed in this banger of a look.
Now, here comes the secret ingredients to look all-cool, served by Yoko. First – grab yourself black clothes. That’s the beginning of everything. Black is cool, black is timeless, black is love. Second – mix up those fabrics and forms, baby. In my case, we see knit, leather, shiny leather, cotton, nylon, and the funny raincoat material. So don’t you feel worried it could be too much. Third, mix up the accents on your silhouette. And by that I mean accentuate different parts of your body – like I do with my waist and the calves. For the rest – keep it loose. As I said, it’s the loose line at the moment (Luckily.). Fourth, SUNGLASSES. It’s not a coincidence that Balenciaga chose this song for their show – they wanted to transport cool with their new line, and they substantiate it by this song. I suppose the reason sunglasses are making you so cool might be because they hide all your mimic. So keep your mouth straight, too. Hehe, no I’m absolutely kidding, I can’t keep my mouth closed for more than a second either, so you go, my dear. Laugh everything away that crosses your way.
And here’s to the why I paired what in which way: Considering the 4° degree that I had while shooting, I wanted to keep things warm. So we are starting off with tights (you know this deal by now). Over the tights, we put knee nylon stockings (I don’t have the slightest clue if this is the right translation, but I’m talking about the knee socks). They accentuate the legs in a lovely way, bringing the third level to the look. Or you might call it a horizontal. This sounds fairly weird, but I’ll try to explain: the first horizontal is closing up on the waist, the second with the dress, and then the third on the stockings. More “areas” in your outfit (that you create by adding horizontals) = more balance = more interest.
Now over the top of the tights, we slipped on a loose-knit dress. A skirt would do the same job, I just didn’t have a midi-length one on hand. Loose trousers would work lovingly good, too – but I wanted to go with the sock-vibe. On top of the dress, we throw a hoodie, to make us really look all nonchalant and cool, in contrast to the rather smart dress-tight-shoe-combo. Over the hoodie, I put a vintage leather-vest, which contributes to the fabric-mixture and brings in some rockish vibes, next to the casual and smart ones I just talked about. Also, the accent on the waist is nice, because it gives at least a little of a silhouette, not making you look like a completely toast/potato/rock. On top of that we add a loose Rain-/Trenchcoat, to make you look like a toast/potato/rock again – translates to: breaking up the silhouette, once again.
Accessory-wise from head to toe we went with:
1. SUNGLASSES – as you can see, you can either opt for the black ones, but a nice colour brings in some interesting factors, too.
2. RED LIPSTICK – makes you look a bit less death-metal and more ladylike.
3. VERY DARK RED NAILPOLISH – going along aaall well with the black look and the lipstick.
4. BIG, SLOUCHY BAG – contributing to the loose forms, too.
5. (CHUNKY) LOAFERS – pretty on trend either. They just manage to look smart but cool at the same time.
sunnies, red lip, dark nail polish, slouchy shopper, chunky loafer
There you go my friends, actually it's pretty simple – just mix up everything black you can find in your wardrobe and top it with sunglasses. MHOA. (The "mhoa" is supposed to resemble the sound that you hear when somebody is impersonating a smooch, but I see that I’m going a bit over the top again with the replications of sounds in words. Good time to stop writing here, oof.).
Wishing you the coolest, most badass week possible.
XX Yoko!
