Hey there bellissimos and ma’s,
two weeks it's been again, huh? Time is passing so quickly. Besides me, being a little sick over the last days, nothing much happened. Berlin was a banger and I spiced up my winter wardrobe a bit over there. So you can guess I’m beyond excited for the posts over the next weeks, I tell you! At least given the circumstance that momma is getting all healthy again. My energy level is kicking me out of bed every morning because I can’t stay in my bed longer than two hours before getting an overwhelming attack of boredom, no matter how sick I am. I’m really wondering how people can do this for days, weeks, months by choice. Puh. I CAN’T. What I also just noticed again is how much energy I get from contact with whomever is giving me. I know that this is a constant debate between intro- and extroverts. Whoever got to know me knows that I’m the stereotype of an extrovert. Throw me in a room with funny people and I’m happy. This was a reflection I already took over the lockdowns, but now I was kinda forced back into that (Well, it was three days, I’m a crybaby sometimes) but to see people again *lifted my soul*
Seeing people for once and dressing up, naturally. How good it felt to put on a banger outfit today! And that's the call for jumping into the explanation behind this wild look. Now the title of the post is Y2K, an homage to the 2000s. Y2K initially refers to potential computer errors related to the formatting and storage of calendar data for dates in and after the year 2000. In my context, we use it as a reference to the fashion from 1997 - 2001. The look itself is not even fully 2000’s inspired. It’s more a mashup of our latest autumn trends, actually (we’ll take a look into those later). Nevertheless, I liked the title for the sweater vest and my mood. I felt pretty playful in this look and I do connect the (sometimes scary and definitely horrific) 2000’s fashion mainly with playfulness.
But now really into the look. We see a colourful striped sweater vest on top of a black-and-white graphic printed blouse paired with a black mini skirt, held together by a big-buckled belt. Shoewise we opted for black boots with a small heel. Our belongings today fit into a black shopper and keeping us warm is a black blazer-leather-jacket as well as a black scarf and black leather gloves. Rounded up is the look by big sunglasses and bright, glossy red lips.
You see, all the elements of this outfit fill a whole paragraph on their own already. Wild combination.
Now as promised, I take you through a few of these autumn-trends, that I all combined because I missed out on dressing the last few days.
1. Pattern-Mixture, all the way
You’re going to see a lot of bright and colourful patterns this year - and who are we, not putting them all together because we are decidophobic maniacs? This trend really comes in handy to me. I’m the worst at making decisions, so just grabbing everything I like is quite a good deal to me. Be a bit careful when mixing patterns, though. I’d recommend taking one colourful pattern (here the sweater vest) and another one with basic colours (here the black and white blouse). If you’re finding one of the basic colours in the other elements of your look, you can’t go wrong with the wild mixtures. It gets a bit trickier if you’re starting to mix up different animal patterns or only colorful patterns. Not that I’d say this wouldn’t work at all, but better be safe than sorry.
2. The Vest
Vests in all shapes and sizes. We already saw this trend last year and in spring 2020. This stays with us a little longer. Luckily. Although I had to get used to it and 12-year-old-Yoko would probably look at me with disgust, they are really good companions in keeping you warm but not hot and bringing in different fabrics into a look. I love! It doesn’t even have to be sweater-vests. During the fashion weeks, there were looots of pretty street-style girls who just wore vests, like the ones you’re wearing on top of suits, as tops. Very fesh, either. Though a bit colder.
3. Leather
There was lots and lots of leather on the runways and though we’ll never be able to afford Balenciaga, YSL and the other big names, you can do that pretty good with second-hand pieces, too. I’d love to give a recommendation on which leather piece, but you actually name it my dear. There was everything from trousers, to skirts, to shoes and bags (naturally, those are basics), to jumpsuits, to hats, … the list goes on. Just name a piece of fabric that could cover your body, buy it in leather (we prefer fake and vegan leather!!!) and you’re what the magazines consider *hip*.
4. Dark Red
… but on your lips and nails! This is more of a beauty-related tip than fashion. Colour-wise the winter fashion still concentrates a lot of brown, or bright colours, not so much on burgundy. But what I just read, and what I actually read from fall, to fall, to fall again, year after year, is that dark shades of red (or green) on the nails and a deep burgundy on the lips are the way to go. This is always good news to me because as you might see, not a single other lipstick colour suits my face better. What a DELIGHT! (And I’m sure yours, too. Really no one can ever go wrong with a red lip. Too classic.). What’s new this year is that we prefer it rather glossy than matte.
Now I already babbled lots and lots again. What I quickly want to mention is the combo of boots and mini-skirt. I see this all the time at the moment and I’m big in love with it. It’s so fall-ish and actually not even cold, when you’re wearing thick thighs - as I do here, hehehe.
Lastly, the Yoko-Drip-Tip: Buy yourself a magazine. We tend to only take our (fashion-)inspiration from insta, but actually, magazines are giving you much more information, detail, and depth. Just remember there are real, educated journalists behind every story and I do think that you really feel this while reading a magazine, instead of just scrolling through your favourite influencers' feed. It is kind of a different way of information consumption. I feel like Instagram is more for intuitive fashion, the printed media for educated one. Both have their pros and cons, as so many things in life, but another big plus is that sitting somewhere, reading, browzing, slows you down differently.
And with that, I’m wishing you a lovely day
