Hey handsome!
And once again, a lovely welcome to yokos unadvised fashion wisdom. For the ones of you who didn’t get the reference in the title – the T-Birds are a gang of “greasers”, quite surprisingly, in the movie “Grease”. I love the movie Grease and probably have seen it about thirty times to this day. Why, you think? Why didn’t she just kicked up Netflix and watched the real housewives of Beverly Hills instead, as everybody does? BECAUSE in times, when I didn’t have any internet due to house moving, I missed music, dearly. And what I had was a DVD Player just as well as the Grease DVD. So I spent my days vibing to “You’re the one that I want” excessively. Always admiring Sandys last look, the one with the tight af black pants, off-the-shoulder crop top, and red heels. Delicate. Now, I’m just quickly dropping the tip to you that you should watch it if you never have – the dialogues may be horrific, but that makes it very funny also it’s a classic and also also, that was the time when John Travolta still looked snacky. Translates to – GO FOR IT.
But music is the cue I was actually heading for. During the last weeks, we took a look at a few nice spring looks and I was tired of showing you just another one, so I decided on the theme *music* this week. Well, we still do have a look that’s suitable for spring, and it's still a fashion article as usual, but the idea behind the look was music-themed and the Yoko Drip-Tip* will also be. *just scroll all the way down.
Now, in terms of music, I am heavily unskilled. I really can’t play any instrument for the most of it, I’d say my voice isn’t terrible but that could be all imagination and you’ll probably never know anyway, so we leave this a mystery. But what I can say is, I don’t spend one day without listening to music. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but I think I’m expressing what you feel when I’m saying that music just is pure joy. And sadness. Anger. Happiness. Emotion and emotional support.
Because I last week fell into deep misery for all the concerts I missed to covid, I thought it’d be a nice thought-experiment to imagine a possible concert look. And now that imaginary what-would-I-wear-for-sweating-dancing-and-drinking is the inspiration behind this look!
It is indeed one of the most simple ones on this page, and if I could wish, I would change two things about it. You’ll learn which ones, if reading on. But let us take a look at the big picture first – with blue jeans, white shirt*, leather jacket and black Doc’s we are pairing basic, on basic, on basic, on basic. But that’s why it is such a timeless look!
*… ♪ walked into the room you know you made my eyes burn ♪ , as my dear Lana del Rey once said. I know she is a hot topic, there are the ones that hate and the ones who love her and apparently nothing in between. I think you can guess which side I’m on.
Here we are pairing basic, on basic, on basic, on basic. And that makes a timeless look, through centuries!
The only variation that you need to put into this look, are the cuts. The Jeans-Cuts and which ones are on trend, vary from time to time. I already talked about this in the other post, and I don’t want to go far too deep into detail here again, but that is the first thing that I would change about this look if I could. Because I’d actually love to pair it with jeans that sit tightly around the waist and then go straight to the bottom, with a wide leg. I think this is the Jeanscut that’s most popular at the moment, I just didn’t manage to find one for me yet. I’m still on the lookout, but the Mom-Jeans I’m wearing here are still doing a good job, too.
Only minus they really have – unfortunately they don’t fit me that properly anymore, and this actually is quite a no-go. So – Good. Fitting. Denim. Is. Key. That means – don’t you lower your sights on the lookout for a good pair of jeans. I know it's horrible, we’ve all been through the disaster of buying jeans and I’m sure the one or other of us might have shed a teeny tiny tear while doing so (me included), but it's worth it.
Three quick tips for buying denim:
1. Do second hand, if possible.
2. Pricier, but good brands, that'll last you an eternity: Lee, Levis and I love my Vintage Hugo Boss's, too
3. Best value for money: I do like some ZARA jeans in comparison to price/quality, but I think in fast fashion it really depends on your body type, so just try yourself through. Really try everything until you're satisfied. Don't buy rubbish because it ⁓ kinda fits ⁓
NOW – enough jeans talk. The cut of the biggest evergreen, the leather jacket, is also varying from year to year. Where last year it was Leather-Blazers, this year they are boxy and waist-short again. The one I’m wearing is lengthwise something in between and has a very classic cut. It’s not an Eyecatcher, but it fits every look. If starting on leather jackets, I’d recommend a very classic pair like this for you.
And now the white shirt – they vary in so many variations that I won't even try to start on them. As the rest of the outfit here is very, very basic (no brave jeans, not a “Wow!”-Jacket, no crazy shoes) I decided to make this piece the eyecatcher of the look and opted for a low-backed-body. Simple, but interesting. And also because it’s figure-hugging, contrary to the other pieces, it compliments the fit of the over-all-look.
For shoes, I just opted for my long-beloved Doc Martens. The classic one, in shiny leather. For as much as I wore these babys, they are not that shiny anymore and they (sadly) fall apart on the one or other edge, but that just shows how timeless they are. Especially for a rather casual, cool look like this. And that brings me to the second piece I would change. If I could – I would swap my docs for a new pair of Jadon-Docs, the ones with the nice plateau. I didn’t have the bucks yet, to grant myself with these, but there will be a day…
If you’re lucky enough to own them pretty babys already, switch things up here. If not – no problem. The standards to their magic, still. The perfect boot. For forever. Do not even try to fight me on that.
Now, accessory wise I kept it simple with some 90’s Dad-Vibe-Sunnies, two small gold chains, a corresponding belt, and I think the easiest way to give this look some glam – a red lip. This always, ALWAYS elaborates the glam of a look. For that, it could be a Yoko-Drip-Tip in itself.
Now for this weeks real Yoko-Drip-Tip, scroll one pic further. Thanks for your recommendations, I appreciated them all and it was such a pleasure to listen through them.
Stay snacky and safe! See you next week.

Yoko Drip Tip: favourite songs.
Including a few of your recommendations! I asked for your favourites earlier this week, and here they are:
My fav. 3:
Arctic Monkeys - R U Mine
When I was twelve my deep love affair with Indie Rock began. With this song. Alex Turners soothing, scratchy, sexy, british voice always reminds me of that moment.
Daft Punk ft. Julian Casablancas - Instant Crush
I never, never never never got tired to listen to this one. It is somewhat mesmerizing.
Queen - Don't stop me now
Okay, there is really no band that can make me dance and sing ( = scream) as Queen does.
